TASK 8: Self Reflection on Carbohydrate

Carbohydrate is a very important aspect of our daily life. This is because we need energy from carbohydrate to do our daily practices and routines. Carbohydrates can be divided into several class which are monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. Glucose and fructose are examples of monosaccharides. Monosaccharides have many functions within cells. Firstly, used to produce and store energy. Besides, used to form long fibres which act as cellular form structure.
Secondly, disaccharides. They often being added to food to act as sweeteners. Meanwhile, for disaccharides, sucrose and lactose are the examples of carbohydrates. Sucrose itself is table sugar and the most common sugar that human eat. Lactose in the other hand is found in breast milk and provide nutrition for the infants.

Lastly, cellulose and starch are examples of polysaccharides. Depending on their structure, polysaccharides can have a variety of functions in nature. Some are for energy storage since polysaccharides consist of many monosaccharides. Then, function to send cellular messages while providing support for cells and tissues.
